It's hot. You're sticky. The humidity can be oppressive. Here are five bright sides:
1. Watching the world go by at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park (you know it as that park in DUMBO) while absentmindedly munching on taleggio, bresaola, prosciutto, and a French loaf all acquired from Murray's.
2. Shake Shack. The closest thing to In-and-Out here, only In-and-Out doesn't use Valrhona chocolate in its black-and-white shakes. The burgers are mighty tasty, and at night, you get to enjoy them in Madison Square Park illuminated by a string of white lights.
3. Sorbet from Il Laboratorio del Gelato. The green apple, fuji apple and kiwi sorbets are sweeter and more vivid versions of the fruits themselves.
4. Red bean and lychee ice cream from Chinatown Ice Cream Factory.
5. Macarons from Bouchon Bakery in the Time Warner Center. These are, of course, not seasonal, but I crave them most during summer. Today I had a chocolate macaron, per usual, and a fruits of the forest macaron, a luscious berry mix that called to me with its name and its lavender hue.
These seem like important places to take out of town guests, yes?
